Some disgruntled Westside residents plan to launch a formal recall drive today against City Councilman Jack Weiss, who has previously announced he will give up his seat in two years to run for city attorney. The Committee to Recall Jack Weiss has scheduled a formal announcement at Rancho Park, across from Fox Studios, a heavily congested area that organizers say exemplifies the problems in the 5th Council District. “Jack Weiss has ceased to represent his constituents and has focused instead on representing developers and other special interests,” the organization said in a printed statement. “It is time fo the people of (the district) to send the message that Jack is supposed to support and represent residents, not just developers, lobbyists and lawyers who donate to his campaign.” Neither Weiss nor his campaign manager would comment on the announcement. The recall proponents’ Web site, www.recalljackweiss.com, and press releases say they believe they needed to act to express their frustration to Weiss and other city officials. To qualify a recall election, the group would need to collect the signatures of 22,000 registered voters in the district.
