FacebookTwitterCopy LinkEmail IS IT TRUE that Congressman Larry Bucshon held a town hall meeting at the Tech High School on Lynch Road and an angry group of constituents showed up to give him a piece of their minds?…from the Republican repeal and replace effort to pollutants in the Tri-State, the progressive crowd laid the wood to Congressman Bucshon continuously?…some of their points were well taken and exhibited a level of frustration in the American people that seems to boil over regularly these days?…that one point made by the organized resistance about pollutants was misinterpreted by the Congressman when he blamed the high pollution levels on the topography of Southern Indiana?…topography does not generate any pollutants as some people thought Congressman Bucshon meant, but it does work together with gravity to direct heavier than air particles like Ozone into the lower elevations?…Southwest Indiana does indeed have some of the most polluted air in the country and yes our rolling hills makes sure the pollutants find their way into the lower elevations such as in the Ohio River flood plain?…in spite of the organized shaming party Congressman Bucshon was a good sport?…the funniest comment of the post event period was calling the town hall and “out of town” hall because it was located outside of the traditional boundary of the City of Evansville?IS IT TRUE the General Manager of the Hilton DoubleTree convention hotel is resigning from that position at the end of August? …we wonder if the Hilton Doubletree General Manager’s early departure could be a signal that all is not well at this $21 million dollar taxpayers subsidized downtown Hotel?IS IT TRUE during the last several days someone has been posting on the internet that Ellis Park will be closing for good at the end of July, 2017? …this information is totally incorrect and has been classified as a “Fake News” posting? …that Ellis Park owner Ron Geary experienced “Fake News” posts when his Evansville IceMen played at the Ford Center? …that the “Fake News” postings about Ellis Park closing for good have been turned over to area law enforcement officials? …that Ellis Park is having its best year in its 95 year history?IS IT TRUE there are a few colleges in the United States that are entertaining getting rid of the basic requirement to pass one class of college algebra to get a degree?…some are even claiming that requiring algebra is racist?…algebra is typically taught in the 8th or 9th grade and is one of those foundational classes that teaches students how to analyze trends and solve for unknowns?…to put a collegiate stamp of approval on someone who can’t pass a basic algebra class is tantamount to malpractice in public education?…simple algebra such as “if you make $2,000 per month and your rent is $700 per month, how much do you have left for transportation, food, utilities and recreation” is as basic as it gets to prepare a young person for a productive and prosperous life?…being a racist would constitute denying a young person of color the right to be taught to analyze problems in a cognizant manner because some foolish administrator decided to waive the requirement?…doing this would blunt the impact that one could have in life’s ladder of success?IS IT TRUE that MIT Economist Peter Tomlin has published a book claiming that the United States has degenerated into a third world country of crumbling infrastructure and failing schools?…Tomlin claims that 20% of the population are now educated and able to handle life in an exemplary manner while the other 80% are drowning in debt and struggling to survive?…we would like to know what Dr. Tomlin thinks about exempting college graduates from getting a passing grade in 8th grade algebra?…such a school is a factory for creating people who struggle with life that did so to spare the poor kids the effort to learn basic thought processes?IS IT TRUE that Evansville and the Tri-State have just endured the hottest three day stretch since 2012?…when you add in the humidity the last several days have been just plain old miserable?…for those who still have a newspaper delivered to the driveway, they most likely broke a sweat just going out to pick up the paper at 7 am?…it is time to do a rain dance to break the heat streak and hopefully recover before the dog days of August come along and do it again?Todays READERS POLL question is: Do you feel that it’s time for the general public to pay tribute to our “First Responders”?Please take time and read our newest feature articles entitled “LAW ENFORCEMENT, READERS POLL, BIRTHDAYS, HOT JOBS” and “LOCAL SPORTS” posted in our sections.
