THE victim of a paedophile priest in Co Donegal has urged others who were abused to come forward – and report the incidents to the body investigating the crimes. The man was abused by a priest in the county in the 1980s and he says it is important that anyone else who suffered at the hands of clergy now ‘pluck up the courage’ to come forward. And he says he wanted to highlight a hotline number, which he claims has not been widely advertised – and should have been. It is a contact number for anyone in the Raphoe or Derry Dioceses in Co Donegal who wants to report any incident of abuse within the Catholic Church. The Dublin telephone number – 01 5053124 – is for the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church.Said the victim: “I know more and more people are coming forward to report abuse.“I am also now aware of the forthcoming audit of the Raphoe Diocese which is due in the next few weeks. “I feel however that a lot of abuse was either not reported to the Church or was held back and now this National Board exists to help victims and to put their cases on the record.“I don’t think any audit can be completed without the whole picture and the whole picture cannot be completed unless more people come forward.”The victim added: “I know from personal experience how hard it is to deal with this issue; but I would beg anyone in Donegal who has been abused by a member of the clergy in the past to come forward now – pluck up the courage and call that number.”A report by the Board which was due to be published in August and this month has been further delayed until October. The Bishop of Raphoe Philip Boyce has vowed to reveal details of the audit then. Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Tags:#cloud#cloud computing#Virtualization Thomas Bittman is a well-known Gartner analyst. We were looking at some findings Bittman reported earlier this fall that are more relevant now as more companies seek to extend its data centers to public cloud infrastructures. We’ve seen this trend pick up momentum in the past month so it is worth reviewing again what the numbers say about the market.According to Bittman:Virtual machine penetration has increased 50% in the last year. Gartner believes that nearly 30% of all workloads running on x86 architecture servers are now running on virtual machines. For the first time midsized companies have deeper virtualization penetration than companies in the Global 1,000. That means a new market is opening up for extended cloud environments and managed cloud services.Bittman says “private clouds,” are all the buzz. Groan. Anyway, his point is right on:“Every major vendor on the planet who sells infrastructure stuff has a private cloud story today. In the last year, the marketing, product announcements and acquisitions have been mind-numbing. Some of this is clearly cloudwashing (“old stuff, new name”), but we’ve seen a number of smart start-ups captured by big vendors, and important product rollouts (notably VMware’s vCloud Director). Now the question is – what will the market buy?”Major infrastructure providers are shifting to virtual machine formats. Bittman’s last point is reflective of a big shift:“IaaS (infrastructure as a service) providers have focused on open source and internal technologies to deliver solutions at the lowest possible cost. But that’s changing. In the past year, there’s been a rapidly growing trend for IaaS providers to add support for major commercial VM formats – especially VMware, but also Hyper-V and XenServer. The reason? To create an easy on-ramp for enterprises. As enteprises virtualize (and in many cases, build private clouds), the IaaS providers know that they need to make interoperability, hybrid, overdrafting, migration as easy as possible. The question is whether that will require commercial offerings (such as VMware’s vCloud Datacenter Services, or Microsoft Dynamic Datacenter Alliance), or if conversion tools will be good enough. I tend to think that service providers better make the off-premises experience as identical to the on-premises experience as possible – and I’m not sure conversion will get them there.”Bittman also says Microsoft’s Hyper-V is under performing. Bittman wonders is this is due to Microsoft’s poor migration offerings? What do you think?Virtualization is moving to the cloud. It will be a major theme in 2011. But the next question is how it will happen and what services companies will use to make the transition. NAPLES, Italy — Tired of its perennial runner-up status in Serie A and shortcomings in Europe, Napoli may have finally overcome a major hurdle toward becoming a genuine threat in all competitions.A depleted bench penalized the southern club under former coaches Walter Mazzarri, Maurizio Sarri and Rafa Benitez but Carlo Ancelotti finally has a wealth of options to choose from in his second season as coach of the Partenopei.“Our goals have been achieved and we now have the quality to fight with the objective of winning the Scudetto (Serie A title),” Ancelotti tweeted on Aug. 24 — a day after Hirving Lozano was signed from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of 46 million euros ($51 million) that made the Mexico winger the most expensive player in Napoli history. While Ancelotti’s prophecy was tested in an up-and-down opening two matches of Serie A, Napoli has come into its own over the last week with 2-0 wins over Sampdoria and then a much more impressive victory by the same score over Liverpool — last season’s winner — to open the Champions League.“(Napoli) can win the competition. If you have a good plan. If you have good players — which they obviously have — then you can win the competition. We experienced that,” Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp said after the match at the Stadio San Paolo on Tuesday. “You don’t have to be the best team in the world to win the Champions League. You have to be in the right moment, you have to be lucky in some situations.”Napoli has been runner-up in Serie A three of the last four years and four in the last seven, having also achieved two third-place finishes in that span, and while the squad is considered a threat to eight-time defending champion Juventus this season, few expect it to win the Champions League.“If he (Klopp) says we can win the competition, I thank him a lot because it’s a coach who really knows football who’s saying that,” said Ancelotti, who won two European Cups as a player and three Champions League titles as a coach (two with AC Milan and one with Real Madrid). “But it’s a very long road. We need to focus on advancing now; that’s our first objective and we’re already in a good position.”Still, Lozano and other new Napoli players like center back Kostas Manolas (who transferred from Roma), striker Fernando Llorente (Tottenham), midfielder Elif Elmas (Fenerbahçe) and fullback Giovanni Di Lorenzo (Empoli) have raised Napoli’s profile. With the exception of Elmas, who was rated one of the top performers against Sampdoria, all of the new players have already scored this season and Llorente was decisive against Liverpool.Coming on as a late substitute, Llorente won the header that led to a disputed penalty converted by Dries Mertens for Napoli’s opener and then sealed it by scoring the second.“Everyone thinks that Llorente is an old-school center forward because he’s so tall, but he’s a complete player,” Ancelotti said of the 1.93-meter (6-foot-3) Spaniard.Kalidou Koulibaly was widely considered the best defender in Serie A last season but he struggled with his condition at the start of the season and scored a devastating own-goal to hand Juventus a 4-3 victory last month.Against Liverpool, however, Koulibaly showed why Napoli received highly lucrative offers for his services in the offseason, shutting down Liverpool’s feared strikers Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané with a series of perfectly timed tackles.“I arrived late to preseason training as I was at the African Cup of Nations and with Manolas joining it took us a while to learn how to play together and we conceded a lot of goals, but we’re improving,” Koulibaly said of the seven goals conceded in the opening two Serie A games. “I want to take the Napoli colors to the top.”By: Andrew Dampf, AP Sports WriterTweetPinShare0 Shares
