Wanting to help out Alcona County, First Federal Community Foundation presented a $750 grant to the Alcona County Food Pantry.Co Director, Shelly Dunn said it’s a blessing to be able to give back thanks to the donation.“It’s a blessing and a very own joy in your heart to be able to do that not just for people in Harrisville but for all over the Alcona County area. You just feel good that you know you’ve done something great for somebody helping them out a little bit,” Dunn said.Alcona County is one of the poorest counties in Michigan. The food pantry runs year–round inside of the United Methodist Church in Harrisville on the 2nd Saturday of each month.Residents can come receive a meal as well as a box of food. The program feeds over 80 families a month.“Family wise we’re right now at about 85, that comes out as an average of about 3 ½ people per family. Sometimes the whole family comes in,” Potter said. When shopping to feed families both Potter and Dunn said it takes about a month to get prepared. Potter said it feels warm inside to get donations like the grant they just received.“It’s awesome, it’s great to be remembered by the community,” Potter added.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThis Tags: Alcona County, Alcona County Food Pantry, First Federal Community FoundationContinue ReadingPrevious TBJH Students Get a Taste of CollegeNext Alpena’s Director And Emergency Services Coordinator Arrestedlast_img read more
