Fraudster caught red-handed; cops recover several fake HP products

first_imgNew Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday said that staff from Jyoti Nagar police station have conducted a raid at a sewage pumping house near Loni Road, New Delhi and recovered a carton full of several counterfeit HP products that included printer toners and cartridges among other things. They said that as a result of the raid, one accused, identified as Ajay Kumar (22) was caught red-handed with the counterfeit products. Police had initially filed a case based on a complaint registered by Hewlett Packard (HP) through a person holding powers of attorney in Delhi earlier this year. Also Read – After eight years, businessman arrested for kidnap & murderSpeaking to the Millennium Post, DCP Atul Kumar Thakur (North East District) said that upon cursory checking of the carton in possession of the accused, nine HP cartridges with different versions of HP laser jet toners in them were discovered. The raid was conducted in the presence of an expert from the company, who checked and confirmed the nature of these products as being counterfeit. In addition to this, HP has also claimed that a raid was conducted at a computer retail store in the busy business locality of Bhikaji Cama Place where one arrest was made. According to a police seizure report in possession of Millennium Post, this raid was conducted at a basement store in Ansal Chamber-1 where about 25 pieces of different HP counterfeit products were recovered. Also Read – Two brothers held for snatchingsHowever, DCP Thakur said that he cannot disclose any information about this particular raid as investigations in the case are ongoing. In its complaint, the company alleged that certain retailers in Delhi were selling spurious and counterfeit products such as computer toners and cartridges under the brand name of HP, without the company’s consent, thus violating its copyright and intellectual property rights. The company accused these retailers of using its trademark, trade logo, and artwork to dupe unaware consumers into believing they were purchasing products manufactured by HP. The complaint also said that the alleged fraudsters packaged their counterfeit products in a manner similar to their own packaging, further trying to pass off their products as genuine. In addition to the raid in Delhi, HP representatives in India also claimed to have conducted raids with assistance from local authorities in Noida, Gurugram and at least five other states across the country. A case against the accused has been registered under section 63 of the Copyright Act at the Jyoti Nagar police station.last_img read more

Algeria to Fly Drones Near Moroccan Border to ‘Capture’ Drug Traffickers

Rabat – Algerian forces will fly drones near its southwestern borders – which includes the southern portion of the Moroccan-Algerian border – for the first time in order to monitor border activities and capture drug smugglers, according to a source who spoke to the Algerian Press Service. The official from the Ministry of Justice made the statement Wednesday night, during a press conference on border security in the region of Bashar.“The important, portable, and effective devices will widen security efforts and improve the oversight of the western border,” the anonymous source said. The drones – which will be deployed over the 3,058 kilometer western border – have hidden cameras that interpret ultraviolet rays and other forms of light that are difficult to capture with regular lenses.“Our efforts will not exceed the field of counter narcotics,” the official said. “Since last January, more than 12 million tons of keef, has entered through the border with Morocco.”Keef is a form of cannabis – grown in Morocco – that is smoked from a pipe.Another source from the Algerian Ministry of Defense added during the same press conference that terrorist groups had been participating in activities near the southwestern border that threaten the North African country’s safety.“The big smugglers have been working with terrorists and different criminal organizations that work in neighboring countries that share borders with us, so border security requires constant alertness,” the defense source said.Algeria, which consists of largely arid land, shares borders with Morocco, Mali and Mauritania on its southwestern side.Border tensions between Morocco and Algeria have on the rise throughout 2016. Last year, the kingdom built a 100 km fence along its border with Algeria, separating the Moroccan cities of Ahfir and Beni Drar from the rival country. In response, Algeria built an equality long fence 3.5 meters high along the same route earlier this year. read more

Weighty move dropping pounds helps Miller excel for Texans

HOUSTON — Lamar Miller was searching for ways to improve this off-season after what he calls a disappointing 2017.It was then that the Houston Texans running back decided to take the advice of two former Miami Hurricanes running backs with a combined 25 years of NFL experience.Edgerrin James, a four-time Pro Bowler who spent 11 years in the NFL, and Frank Gore, a 35-year-old who made the Pro Bowl five times and is in his 14th season shared their secret for NFL longevity: weight loss.“They were just telling me that every year they tried to play lighter and lighter because as you get older they say you lose a step … and all that weight is not good,” Miller said.“So just having guys like that to give you some knowledge on some of the things that helped them throughout their career, I just felt like it would help me. So that’s something I tried to focus on this off-season was to lose some weight.”Gore called Miller his “little brother” and said he’s a big believer in running backs getting lighter as they age.“I used to play at 217, 218 when I was younger,” he said. “Now I try to play lighter than that.”That led the 5-foot-10 Miller to shed about 7 pounds, dropping from 225 last year to 218 this season.Though he didn’t make the change until this season, his transformation was about three years in the making.Gore, who Miller has long looked to for advice, first brought up that he started playing a bit lighter every year as he aged before Miller’s first season in Houston in 2016. But Miller was just 25 at the time and thought he was too young to worry about something that helped older players. So, he went the other way and gained a few pounds before that season because he thought it would help him carry a bigger rushing load.He had a good year, rushing for 1,073 yards with five touchdowns, before a 2017 season where he finished with 888 yards rushing and never ran for more than 75 yards in a game all season. And when he spoke with James this off-season and he shared the same thing as Gore and suggested Miller should slim down, too, he decided to give it a try.“I thought: ‘They had success doing it so why can’t you,’” Miller said. It’s a change he believes has made a big difference.“I can feel it,” he said. “I feel lighter when I’m running and stuff and overall my body feels good. I think it’s helped me. So far, I’ve been doing good. I don’t really see how it hasn’t (helped).”The numbers back it up. Miller had 103 yards rushing last week for his fourth 100-yard game this season, and with five regular-season games left he needs just 13 yards to eclipse last year’s rushing total.Coach Bill O’Brien has been impressed with Miller’s improvement this season.“He really wanted to come in this year and have a good year for us and that’s what he’s done,” O’Brien said. “I think we’ve managed him pretty well and he’s done a great job of, in the off-season, training and then having a good training camp. He’s always been a consistent performer for us.”The thing that disappointed Miller most about his numbers last year was that he averaged a career-low 3.7 yards a carry.“That was bad,” he said. “My whole career I was averaging 4 yards or better, so that was a big drop-off for me.”This season he’s boosted his average to 5 yards a carry, which is second only to the 5.1 yards he averaged in 2014 when he ran for a career-best 1,099 yards in Miami. Miller ranks sixth in the NFL in yards rushing and has the longest TD run in the league this season after he rumbled 97 yards for a score in Houston’s win over Tennessee on Nov. 26.That run made him the only player in NFL history to have two TD runs of 95 yards or longer after he also had a 97-yard touchdown run in 2014 while with the Dolphins.Houston defensive end Jadeveon Clowney said that Miller looked like a rookie on that run and Miller, who was a sprinter on Miami’s track team along with playing football, said he heard similar things from many old friends after that touchdown.“People were saying: “oh you still have your speed and stuff,’” Miller said. “So just hearing it from a lot of people that I grew up with was good.”Gore was among those who delighted in seeing Miller break that long run and he raved about his work this season.“He’s balling,” Gore said. “He’s taking advantage of his opportunity. I hope he gets in the Pro Bowl.”Miller knows the solid play of Houston’s offensive line and his focus on being more decisive have also contributed to his success this season. But he’s sure the weight loss gave him a boost and that’s why he’s going to follow in the footsteps of his fellow former Hurricane friends for the rest of his career.“I’m back in a rhythm,” he said. “I’m doing some positive things to help this team win and that’s always a good thing. So, I’m going to keep that formula to try to keep losing weight as I get older.”___AP Sports Writer Steven Wine contributed to this report.___More AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL and https://twitter.com/AP_NFLKristie Rieken, The Associated Press read more

I just officially announced my retirement but I’m going to continue to play around the world, I’m going to continue to play for Knight Riders,” he explained.“To all my fans who got scared and thought they would never see me play cricket, you can rest assured I will continue playing — just that I won’t be playing for West Indies.“I will be trying to keep my body fit so I can play as long as possible.”Bravo was repeatedly snubbed by Windies selectors despite guiding Trinbago Knight Riders to back-to-back titles in the Caribbean Premier League over the last two seasons. He captained West Indies in ODIs for 19 months up to 2014 when he was sacked and dropped from the squad following his key role in the controversial abandoned tour of India earlier that year, owing to a player’s pay dispute with Cricket West Indies. read more

Explorer program teaches valuable life skills

first_imgThe official goal of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Explorer program is to offer young people “an opportunity to observe the criminal justice system and assist them in making an informed career decision.”But don’t believe only the official line, because the program is much more than that.Ask any of the young people enrolled in the program what it means, and you’ll hear about police stuff, sure, but they also say it teaches you to rise up both mentally and physically.“Explorers sets a standard,” said Jacinda Rose, a high school junior from Ridgefield who is in the program. “It puts a higher standard on you to learn about everything.”Rose would know. She’s a recent champion of a statewide Explorer camp physical agility test. That challenge included a dummy drag, some sprints through a marked course and a bear crawl to the finish line. And that’s not even the tough part. The camp offers up exposure to some of the paramilitary structure still prevalent in law enforcement. There are drills and chores, and for first-timers there are times when you just get yelled at.last_img read more

Pennsylvania Lawmaker Urges Hearing on Groundwater Contamination

first_imgPennsylvania Rep. Brendan Boyle (D) is calling for a congressional hearing to investigate potential groundwater contamination at more than 600 sites at former and active military installations across the country stemming from chemicals in firefighting foam.In a written statement, Boyle acknowledged that DOD is assessing groundwater samples from affected sites for perfluorinated compounds and beginning voluntary remediation.“However, despite the serious health risks posed by prolonged exposure to and accumulation of PFOS and PFOA in potable water sources on these sites, the response has lacked the urgency I believe is necessary to address this public health threat. These investigation and cleanup efforts are seriously undermined by a lack of urgency on the part of the DOD,” Boyle said. The first term congressman’s Philadelphia-area district includes two former installations — Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Willow Grove and Naval Air Warfare Center Warminster — where elevated levels of perfluorinated compounds were found in about 100 public and private wells in 2013 and 2014.“Concern among Horsham’s residents has significantly increased since the EPA tightened its health advisory guideline for these contaminants in our drinking water,” Boyle said. In May, EPA released new lifetime exposure health advisories for PFOS and for PFOA, reported the Intelligencer.Boyle sent his request for a hearing to the chair and ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, of which he is a member.“While I appreciate the EPA’s heightened scrutiny of these contaminants and the Navy’s commitment to monitoring wells and taking implicated wells offline, I believe officials have thus far failed to present adequate information to the public regarding the latest science and known health risks posed to our community,” Boyle said. first_imgThe domestic e-commerce market is estimated to grow by 67% to $38 billion (Rs 2.51 lakh crore) in 2016 from over $23 billion (Rs 1.52 lakh crore) last year, boosted by a rise in Internet and mobile users, according to a study by an industry body. With buying trends during 2015 witnessing a significant upward movement due to aggressive online discounts, rising fuel price and wider and abundant choice will hit the e-commerce industry in 2016, Assocham said in a statement.”Increasing Internet and mobile penetration, growing acceptability of online payments and favourable demographics has provided the e-commerce sector in India the unique opportunity to companies connect with their customers,” it said.India’s e-commerce market was worth about $3.8 billion in 2009. It went up to $17 billion in 2014 and to $23 billion in 2015, said D S Rawat, Secretary General Assocham.”The customer is connected 24×7 through their smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, which is leading to a gradual evolution of e-commerce into mobile commerce, and there is an issue of convenience which also leads to impulsive buying,” said Rawat.Shopping online through smartphones is proving to be a “game-changer”, and the top players in the sector expect m-commerce to account for 70% of their total revenues, it said.It noted that with browsing trends, which have broadly shifted from the desktop to mobile devices in India, online shopping is also expected to follow suit, as one out of three customers currently makes transactions through mobiles in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities.According to Rawat, 78% of shopping queries were made through mobile devices last year, compared to 46% in 2013.Among the various segments, apparel shopping recorded the highest growth of 69.5% in 2015, followed by electronic items, baby care products and beauty care products at 62%, 53% and 52%, respectively.”The most important contributing factor to the rapid growth of digital commerce in India is the increase in the use of smartphones. YouTube Removes The Nun Ad After JumpScare Complaints

first_imgAppreciate you bringing this to our attention! This ad violates our shocking content policy and it’s no longer running as an ad. More info here: https://t.co/dOUocjUevh— Team YouTube (@TeamYouTube) August 14, 2018According to its “violent and shocking content in ads” policy, YouTube strives “to avoid offending or shocking users with websites, or apps that are inappropriate for our ad network.” Examples of content considered violent or shocking include “gruesome imagery” and “promotions that are likely to shock or scare.” YouTube responded in appreciation for notifying it of the ad’s inflammatory potential, which, the company’s team Twitter account notes, violates its shocking content policy. A recent ad for “The Nun,” the fifth flick in “The Conjuring” series, is not the most saintly.Because of the fear the six-second clip has incited in unsuspecting viewers, YouTube has notably taken the video down from the site. The preview, which was streaming before other videos would load on YouTube, displays a typical volume sign increasing in volume and then lowering all the way down when suddenly, the titular nun in full-horror mode appears and makes a blood-curdling scream. One Twitter user issued a warning about the choice jump-scare in the video and cautioned viewers to turn down the volume “if you have anxiety or just straight up hate jumpscares.” The tweet received over 145,000 likes and 132,000 retweets. WA Travel Counsellors check out Air New Zealands new Dreamliner

first_imgWA Travel Counsellors check out Air New Zealand’s new DreamlinerWA Travel Counsellors check out Air New Zealand’s new DreamlinerIn order to keep up-to-date with the latest aviation trends and aircraft improvements, four Travel Counsellors recently completed an aircraft inspection at Perth Airport. Joined by Jacqueline Tan from Air New Zealand, Nadine New, Clare Hardie, Chrissie Shah and Cheryl Richmond all inspected Air New Zealand’s new Dreamliner. With New Zealand being a highly popular destination for Australian travellers, the Travel Counsellors team were keen to inspect what Air New Zealand’s fleet had to offer.“I am very impressed with this Air New Zealand’s new Dreamliner. While Air New Zealand is a trusted carrier, when it comes to booking flights, it’s a highly competitive market out there, so airlines really have to offer something different to be able to compete. I’m glad I had a chance to experience Air New Zealand’s fleet up close – while you can read up on aviation developments and ask other agents for their opinion, nothing compares to seeing and experiencing things for yourself,” comments Nadine New of Palmyra.  become a Travel Counsellor todayclick hereAbout Travel CounsellorsTravel Counsellors Australia was established in 2007 and currently has 150 Travel Counsellors.
